Public benefits
All children within our locality have equal access to preschool education. They are given the opportunity to access the Early Years curriculum in an age and ability appropriate way. Children are given the opportunity to meet and interact with their peers in an informal setting prior to starting primary school. Any support required for primary
school can be identified and put in place or in the process during the preschool year. Celebrating diversity and ensuring our preschool is free from prejudice means all children feel welcome and happy and can learn to the best of their ability. As members of the Early Years Organisation and dedicated Early Years practitioners, children benefit from the implementation of a child centred approach to learning which is always play based and focussed on the individual needs of each child. As a result children become confident in their learning and feel able to express themselves and their needs. Our non-discriminatory admissions criteria is published on the EA website each year. Our short, medium and long term plans evidence our commitment to the Early Years Curriculum. Individual plans for children with needs are kept and observations are recorded of all children in order to accommodate our child centred approach and focus on individual needs. Benefits are best demonstrated through the happy children in our setting who become confident, happy learners, and their parents who will frequently testify to this. There is no harm. Our Pupils & their families from Garrison & the neighbouring areas are the direct beneficiaries, they are at an advantage for availing of the pre-school education we provide, gaining social interaction with peers they will accompany into primary education. Hence improving confidence, social skills & intellectual/ cognitive stimulation. A private benefit flowing from this purpose is that our Trustees will learn new skills as they take on roles on our Management committee. This is incidental and necessary for the successful running of the organisation in carrying out our purposes.
What your organisation does
We, at Little Smarties, are fully committed to carrying out our purpose. (a)Children are offered places in our preschool based on non-discriminatory selection criteria. We ensure an inclusive environment is promoted at all times in our preschool by promoting and celebrating diversity. Children with any kind of additional needs are supported,
appropriate measures are sought and put in place to ensure all children have equal access to the Early Years curriculum which we deliver. (b)Policies are in place to ensure the preschool is free from prejudice of any kind. These are updated each year and all staff read and sign up to these each year. (c)All children are treated as individuals, their opinions are listened to and their individual interests are considered when planning for themes and activities throughout the setting. Children are encouraged to express themselves in ways they feel most comfortable and are given time to decide hoe and when they want to do this. Children's work is displayed with pride throughout the setting before being sent home. (d)We are a member of the Early Years Organisation and incorporate their values into all aspects of our setting. We endeavour to deliver the early years curriculum in an age and ability appropriate way for all children in our preschool.
