Public benefits
The direct benefit flowing from purpose a is improved educational outcomes for all pupils by stronger liaison and communication between staff, parents and others associated with the organisation. The effective parental engagement leads to increased understanding and involvement in education. The direct benefit flowing from purpose b is the
provision of additional resources to advance education, which could not be provided from direct school funding. These benefits are demonstrated by the high level of attendance at events and the participation of pupils, parents, staff and community. Pupils have increased access to resources, events and activities and links with the local community. There is no harm arising from either of the purposes. The charity's beneficiaries are the children, and their families, of Doagh Primary School, along with members of the local community. Trustees (PTA members) are usually also parents at the school which their children attend and hence gain benefit in the same way as all other beneficiaries. This benefit is incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to all beneficiaries.
What your organisation does
Our PTA is made up of a group of elected parents and staff. All parents and staff are invited to share their skills and help at our events. We run a programme of events throughout the school year, which are available to pupils, their family and friends and the wider community. Every year we run two big fundraisers, our Christmas Craft Fair and
Summer Fun Night. We vary other fundraisers from year to year and in the past we have held a DVD night, a fashion show, school disco and a Fireside Quiz. All our events raise funds but are also open to all visitors, regardless of gifts given. We design competitions for the children throughout the year and we provide refreshments at various events throughout the year. In close consultation with the Principal and teachers, we agree to fund a range of items and services that directly benefit the school and the children. In recent years we have bought outdoor classroom, white boards and books. Overall, we are a fundraising organisation, but an important part of our role is promoting social inclusion, community relations and providing a less formal communication channel between the parent body and the school.
