Public benefits
The direct benefits that flow from our purpose, include; improving quality of life, reducing isolation and supporting those suffering from disadvantage within our catchment area. By providing facilities and activities, we develop and maintain community spirit, improve physical and social infrastructure in our community to increase skills, social
integration and ensure equal access for all. These benefits are demonstrated through the number of user groups and individuals participating in our activities and booking our facilities. To evidence the direct benefits, we carry out evaluations of our ongoing work through feedback from participants and qualitative assessments such as baseline audits with project participants at the beginning and comparisons at the end of the project. We also keep a record of the number of bookings and different user groups who make use of our activities and facilities. There is no harm flowing from our organisation’s purposes. The charity’s beneficiaries are the people of Maghera and surrounding district area. The only private benefit flowing from our organisations purposes are that Craigmore & District Community Association committee members and their families can participate in all activities and this is incidental and necessary to ensure that all members of the area can benefit.
What your organisation does
We are a local community association which provides support to the local residents of the Maghera Area. The association works our of the Glen Centre in Maghera which provides us with the facilities to engage with our community by running a range of activities. The glen centre has a multipurpose community hall, training room, communal kitchen,
meeting space and parking which are used by other local groups i.e. schools, sports clubs, local residents for private bookings and statutory organisations, whom we work closely with to further our organisations purposes. We run a number of community led activities, such as mother and toddler programmes; exercise classes for men and woman i.e. Pilates and mens keep fit programmes; Irish dancing; mens cooking classes; health and wellbeing workshops; sports activities for children i.e. Fundamentals and basic skills, multi spots programmes; art classes; educational and training workshops, i.e. IT workshops, CV writing; seasonal schemes i.e. summer camps for primary and secondary school aged children; age friendly programmes; bingo and community events. In addition to the above programmes, we aim to run other needs led programmes which help to improve the lives of local people and further our objectives. Our charity is run by 10 trustees, who raise funds through fundraising, donations and grant making.
