What your organisation does

Creative Village Dundrum has, prior to covid lockdown, undertaken a series of workshops and events within Dundrum. This has included, Weaving classes, Sketching classes, dance and exercise for health and wellbeing and Lino cut card making classes. We have also created a large community mural to thank local frontline workers during covid. We have

organised and managed a village Christmas fair which operated over 2 days. This provided a space for local artists and crafters to present and sell their work. At the same time it offered a collective event for all of the people in the village. We introduced a monthly open mic session within the village to encourage local talent. This showcased local musicians, poetry, drama sketches and storytelling. The events were well supported. Those actively taking part ranged from 17yr olds to a 90 year old and were from all backgrounds. The audience was cross cultural, intergenerational and cross social strata. Attendances voluntary contributions. All events were advertised and reported on locally. Feedback was positive and expressed the need for more activities. Coming out of Covid we have already created a new mural within the village which has received over 170 likes on the local Facebook with comments reflecting the positive impact on the village. We have begun a series of tai chi classes safely outdoors overlooking murlough bay. We have a host of other courses and events in the pipeline which we are keen to develop with input from residents. We are currently in discussion with other groups within Dundrum to plan a local music and arts festival to bring people safely and quickly together following covid lockdown. We are actively seeking a space for a creative hub within Dundrum.
