Public benefits

The public benefits that flows from the purpose are the advancement of education, through participating in community education programmes, having guest speakers, training opportunities and promoting life-long learning, thus developing individual capabilities, competences, skills and understanding. The advancement of health, through activities that

promote positive physical and mental health and understanding, which improve overall health and wellbeing. The advancement of citizenship or community development, through participating in volunteering opportunities and by encouraging community activity to foster civic values. The relief of those in need because of age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage, through an open, diverse and inclusive programme of activities for which funding is sought to cover costs, to ensure the poor are not excluded from participating. These benefits are demonstrated through the annual programme, the annual report, evaluation forms and reports for individual sessions, questionnaires and one to one and group feedback which is noted and recorded in minutes. This is also demonstrated through the number of members who are involved in the Forum and the personal benefits of membership; communication skills, collaboration skills, active listening, understanding diversity and team working. The purpose does not lead to harm or potential harm. The Charity’s beneficiaries are people aged 50+ residing in the Greater Shankill Area of Belfast. Private benefit flowing from the purpose is training provided to trustees in order for them to carry out the work of the organisation. Through this training the trustees enhance their personal skills and abilities through the responsibility of being a trustee and as a consequence thereby of any associated training and/or development opportunities. They gain skills and experiences which are transferable to other settings. This incidental benefit is necessary because it ensures the role of trustee is effective and overall, enables the benefit is provided to our beneficiaries.
