Public benefits
The direct benefits that flow from the organisations purpose are; 1. The benefit which flows from purpose 1 includes funding for additional resources for the school and links built with the local community and between members of the community. 2. The benefit which flows from purpose 2 includes increased educational progress and attainment of pupils
in the school. 3. The benefit which flows from purpose 3 includes increased opportunity to experience a variety of activities which would not be afforded to them otherwise. 4. The benefit which flows from purpose 4 includes the breaking down of barriers between different groups within our community. The benefits identified can be demonstrated; 1. Through having an active PTA that works in partnership with the school and engages parental support. 2. Through pupils having access to resources, events, activities which are not available through direct school funding. 3. Through pupils partaking in workshops, trips, activities which are not available through direct school funding. 4. Through all our team members working together towards a common goal, regardless of their race, nationality, religion, ethnicity etc. It is also evident when the children get together with cross-community schools for play sessions. These purposes do not lead to harm. The beneficiaries are; Pupils, parents and the community surrounding St. Mary's Nursery School. Charity trustees (PTA committee members) are usually parents (past and/or present) of the school and hence gain benefit in the same way as all other beneficiaries - availing of the support provided by the school and the advancement of education provided for their children. This benefit is incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to all beneficiaries. The facilitators of workshops or hosts of activities are benefitting as they receive payment for their service however, the fee is nominal and is necessary for us to be able to access it.
What your organisation does
Friends of St. Mary's carry out their purpose by organising events and fundraisers to benefit the children, parents and community surrounding St. Mary's Nursery School. Fundraisers such as bake sales, sponsored walks, sponsored sing-a-longs etc. allow us to raise much needed income in order to provide experiences which are not feasible through the
normal school budget. In the past we have funded items such as sensory equipment, iPads and transport for trips. We also facilitate some workshops which provide excellent opportunities for our parents and community to become involved with school life and each other. This is particularly useful for minority groups as it provides them with a vehicle to enter and become part of a community and parent body.
