Public benefits
Galbally Friends’ Fund receives charitable donations and distributes that money to those individuals in need who are living with 1. A palliative diagnosis and or 2. Complex health needs Those who will benefit will be those who live in the catchment area as defined by the town lands of Aghnaskea, Altmore, Altaglushan, Altmore, Annaghmakeown,
Aughafad, Ballymacall, Camaghy, Cappagh, Clonavaddy, Coolmaghery, Corlea, Cornamaddy, Crannogue, Crosscavanagh, Dernanaught, Dernaseer, Derryalskea, Dungorran, Finulagh, Foygh, Galbally, Glenbeg, Glenburrisk, Gortavoy, Gortindarragh, Gortnagola, Kerrib, Killyharry, Killymakardle, Kilmore, Kilnaslee, Knocknaclogha, Largylea, Moghan, Mullaghfurtherland, Reclain, Shanmaghery, Sessiadonaghy, Toomog and the greater Galbally area. The public benefits that flow from purpose (i) are: (a) help relieve the suffering and distress of people in need who are living with a palliative diagnosis, leading to improvements in emotional wellbeing and quality of life; and (b) increased opportunity to avail of health services, leading to greater social cohesion and involvement in community life. The direct benefits that flow from purpose (ii) are: (a) support the challenge and affliction of people who are living with complex health needs, leading to reduced financial stress and reduced anxiety; greater opportunity to improve health and quality of life. Indirect benefits include a sense of community, support and fellowship within an isolated rural area and a sense of purpose and cohesion on the part of those who participate in the social and leisure activities we organise which contribute to the well-being of the whole community. Formal and informal evidence confirms that people are financially worse off as a result of relieving palliative care or living with complex health needs. This is due to reduced household incomes and increased expenses including travel for medical appointments and home heating costs. The organisation makes payments directly to beneficiaries and they choose how to spend the grant. These payments are made to reduce anxiety arising from financial issues so that the person can focus on their health and recovery. These benefits will be evidenced through feedback and testimony of beneficiaries and their families. In providing direct financial support this purpose does not lead to harm. There will be no harm arising from the purposes. There are no fees charged to beneficiaries to avail of the funding through Galbally Friends’ Fund. The funding is not means tested and is inclusive of everyone who meets the criteria including living in the Galbally townlands as outlined. There is no private benefit to anyone that is not outweighed by the public benefit of alleviating poverty and a lack of well-being. There is no private benefit to a trustee. However should a trustee or relative of a trustee be in need of palliative care or have complex needs and reside in the target area they would be entitled to receive the same level of financial support as other beneficiaries as defined by the charity's purpose. To avoid any conflict of interest the trustee would be required to absent themselves from any meeting concerning the award of support. The above is incidental and required to carry out the purposes of the Charity.
