Public benefits
Drumquin Young At Heart Club is an over 50's Club, which is established for the advancement of education & health and the prevention or relief of poverty in our rural community. We address the lack of activities for the older people locally and provide a vital link with organisations who provide advocacy, welfare & health services, addressing
poverty in our area. The direct benefits which flow from the purposes are improved mental and physical wellbeing, demonstrated by attendance and participation data and evidenced by increased attendance, with members requests for more activities for older people. The benefits are evidenced through feedback from our increasing membership and their families, through evaluation forms, verbal feedback, small informal cluster group meetings as well as formal full membership group meetings. The possibility of harm e.g. by physical injury incurred through gentle exercise or craft classes, is outweighed by the benefits and significantly reduced by policies, procedures and relevant training in place to address risks i.e. Safeguarding Policy, Health & Safety Policy, First Aid Policy and Code of Conduct Policy for staff and volunteers. The beneficiaries are older people aged 50 or thereabouts in Drumquin and its environs. Private benefits are through payments to class tutor fees and rental of premises but these are incidental. There are no other private benefits.
What your organisation does
Drumquin Young At Heart Club provides an assortment of educational classes ie Cooking on a Budget, Floral Art, Gardening, First Aid, Health & Safety and Safeguarding. We also run educational day trips to historic sites and educational venues in the North ie Seamus Heaney Museum, Crumlin Road Goal, Folk & Transport Museum. We provide classes to
address health and wellbeing. Gentle Exercise Classes ie Yoga and Dance, as well as craft classes ie knitting, crochet, sewing, painting, collage etc. We regularly distribute leaflets with the latest health concerns. A monthly Club Social and invites to activities run by other Clubs and Groups in the Tyrone area, helps us to address and reduce isolation and loneliness for our older people. We signpost to organisations who provide advocacy services ie Omagh Forum for Rural Associations, South West Age Partnership, British Red Cross, DHSS, PSNI, St Vincent de Paul, Volunteer Centre Omagh. We distribute relevant leaflets from the above, dealing with social security welfare benefits, alcohol & substance abuse, domestic violence, mental health and wellbeing, household security & safety, plus the latest advice on scams. Our Club is a member of Rural Links and Easilink Transport, providing a much needed service at a reduced cost for older people ie to attend hospital appointments.
