Public benefits
The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include raising awareness of age appropriate play based learning among parents/carers and the provision of early education for children under the statutory school age in Drumaness and the wider County Down area. The Playgroups purpose will benefit the public by providing play based learning
environments in which children can learn and develop in each of the 6 areas of the early years curriculum and have opportunities to reach their full potential. These benefits are evidenced through feedback from parents/carers, Early Years Specialist Advisors and regular evaluation of the service by Social Services and the Education and Training Inspectorate. This purpose does not lead to any harm as the Playgroup takes extensive steps to ensure that risk assessments are carried out fully and that robust Policies and Procedures are in place and adhered to. The beneficiaries of the purpose are children under the statutory school age living in Drumaness and the wider County Down Area. No private benefit flows from any of the Playgroups purposes
What your organisation does
Drumaness Cross Community Playgroup is a voluntary organisation managed by an elected Management Committee . The main purpose is to offer pre-school education in the Drumaness and wider County Down Area to children in their final pre-school year. The playgroup is managed on a daily basis by a Playgroup Leader, a Deputy Leader and a Playgroup
Assistant who are all qualified in line with the Department of Education and Training requirements. The Playgroup also works in partnership with the local FE College to provide local student placement opportunities when choosing this pathway as a learning. The Playgroup Committee and Staff adhere to stringent practices with Safeguarding and Child Protection at the core of its work. The Playgroup work in line with guidance from Social Services and/or Education and Training Inspectorate. The Playgroup have annual Social Services Inspections and any recommendations from these visits implemented. The Playgroup also undergo rigorous inspections from The Education & Training Inspectorate and follow all guidelines under the Minimum Standards for Childminding and Day Care The playgroup offers high quality activities and age appropriate play experiences to promote children’s learning in all areas of their development in line with the 6 areas of the curriculum. The playgroup actively encourages the involvement of parents/carers to share in their children’s learning by encouraging them to take on roles within the Management Committee, participating in fund raising activities and by accompanying their children on various outings arranged throughout the year. The playgroup is situated within the grounds of Christ the King Primary School and has formed close links with the School and promotes itself to be part of the local community. It works closely with other local community groups, Schools and Playgroups to promote interest and encourages the participation of children and their parents/carers at every opportunity.
