The direct benefits flowing from the purpose include: •improved personal and community well-being, particularly helping to protect people from feelings of loneliness and isolation in this rural community; •stimulating a "can do" approach in a small community; •encouraging people to participate in community activities; •more active and positive

community life, including reduced levels of stress and anxiety; •more opportunities to meet people from all backgrounds and join with them in shared interests; •better relationships and social interaction; •raised awareness and interest in amenities and activities not otherwise accessible locally; •improvements in the maintenance of the built environment, especially buildings of architectural merit or historical interest; •reduction in appearance of neglect and littering; •increased respect for and appreciation of local environment and amenities; •raised awareness of local heritage with general public inside and outside the local area; •welcoming visitors and tourists. The benefits from the purpose are evidenced through numbers participating in events and activities, feedback following events, social media and other comments and membership support for Friends of Ballyclog group. The benefits are also evidenced through a greater sense of involvement, positivity and optimism in community life, to be seen in more people making suggestions and volunteering their services, along with visible improvements in appearance of buildings and landscape, greater involvement of people from outside the local area in activities and welcoming atmosphere and more facilities for visitors and tourists. There is no harm arising from the purpose. The beneficiaries are the general public, both living in the local area and those further afield. The trustees and other members of Friends of Ballyclog will benefit from the purpose as they are local residents at present but that private benefit is only incidental and necessary for the achievement of the charity's purpose.

Charitable purposes

The object of FOB shall be the advancement of citizenship and community development by: Promoting and advancing physical and social well-being, encouraging good relations, social cohesion and neighbourliness, through community events and shared activities; Promoting and advancing mental, emotional and spiritual well-being, encouraging a sense of belonging for local families, through providing somewhere to meet and create friendships and facilitating events and activities; Promoting and advancing environmental well-being, valuing and preserving the landscape and buildings heritage of the Ballyclog area, protecting the natural environment and supporting the local community.
