Public benefits
The direct benefit which flows from Purpose 2.1 is the enhancement of the skills, knowledge and experiences of our members through training, education and sharing of skills in the development of artistic performance, drama and interactive theatre, increasing the self confidence of members both young and old making them more employable. Membership
is open to all within our community who can enjoy social interaction helping to improve mental health and well-being while reducing social isolation through leisure and recreational activities. The direct benefit which flows from Purpose 2.2 includes giving the wider public and members a shared meeting place to get together with others to enjoy drama and artistic performances, encouraging social interaction and helping reduce social isolation and to develop skills in drama which members can transfer to other areas of their life making the more confident and accepting of differences within other people they benefit in gaining an understanding of the different abilities and qualities everyone has and shares. These shows also benefit the public by providing opportunities for social interaction that demonstrate the need for people to have opportunities within the community to come together. The direct benefit which flows from Purpose 2.3 includes providing opportunities for engagement of young and older members of our community to come together and learn new skills and share their existing skills with each other, helping to build lasting relationships and understanding between different generations, creating a more cohesive community infrastructure in Portaferry and beyond and reducing social isolation. These benefits are demonstrated by the number of members we have attending weekly workshops and participating in drama workshops - we have 45 members both young and old. These members provide feedback on activities run helping us to meet the local needs of young and old with future drama and interactive theatre performances. In addition benefits are also demonstrated through attendance by the general public (several hundred people) at our annual performances, time and time again, they come back to shows, in addition through our facebook page we received messages of support and encouragement, not just about the shows but also about how lovely it is for people to meet friends that they haven't seen in some time and that the shows provide an opportunity for them to catch up, all helping to create community cohesion and reduce social isolation. The purposes of our Charity will not lead to any harm. Our Charities beneficiaries are the Trustees, our members and the general public. A private benefit to Trustees may arise from our programme of activities by bringing in drama tutors to develop the dramatic skills of members, Trustees and volunteers also benefit from this tutoring. Through this support Trustees may gain skills and experiences which are transferable to other settings, this is incidental and necessary for the development of the organisation and to ensure the benefit is provided to our beneficiaries.
What your organisation does
Our organisation provides weekly workshops in creative dance, drama and interactive theatre for children, young people and adults in a shared accessible venue bringing together people from all backgrounds. On an annual basis we stage artistic performances and exhibitions for the wider community. We make applications for funding to cover costs of
bringing in drama coaches, artistic directors, etc and to cover training and development of the our members. We also fundraise to help subsidise the overheads in running our organisation. Also one of our annual performances is a Christmas Panto bringing together young and older members in creating a entertaining community event. We also engage with other local groups within Portaferry in helping to organise community events involving members and community groups by bringing an artistic and musical flare to them.
