Public benefits

Members of the public within the south Armagh area which the CDCFR is permitted to attend will receive primary life-saving care in a range of medical emergencies, as permitted by the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service, pending the arrival of the ambulance service CDCFR. Volunteers will be trained in programs that have been approved by the Northern

Ireland Ambulance Service and will therefore be able to provide life-saving primary care in a wide range of medical emergencies. The public will also have access to life-saving equipment that can be used in a medical emergency. Greater awareness of CPR, and what to do in situations when someone is choking, going unconsciousness, or having a stroke, will be promoted in community through awareness workshops and working with other groups. CDCFR volunteers will also provide support and comfort to family members during medical emergencies. The benefit of the CDCFR can be seen when you review the records of CDCFR attending medical emergencies having been dispatched by Northern Ireland Ambulance Service. Records of the training that the volunteers undertake and provide within the community. Feedback from families of people who have been helped by CDCFR is further evidence of the benefit. There is no harm arising from any of the purposes. The beneficiaries are anyone in the community in a medical emergency that has contacted Northern Ireland Ambulance and has been identified as appropriate for assistance by a trained Community First Responder. The Volunteers will benefit from enhanced training but this is incidental and necessary to ensure they are fully trained to support the purpose of the charity.

What your organisation does

Working as part of a team that includes NIAS Ambulance staff and other caring staff we aim to make a significant contribution to a person’s chance of surviving a life-threatening emergency whenever and wherever it may occur. As a team we will promote and encourage the setting up of CFR groups. We will also where approved by the Committee Provide

First Aid cover at Community and Fund-Raising Events. We aim to educate the public how to deal with an emergency and how to carry out CPR and use a defibrillator.
