Public benefits

Being a part of our organisation gives young people, aged 3 up to 18 throughout Northern Ireland, a sense of belonging to the Brigade family, it also encourages them to adopt a moral frame work which helps them to be good citizens. Being a part of the CLCGB NI encourages young people to give back to their community and Church and to be involved in

social action. Our badge work teaches young people to be safe and healthy in their world and also to look after the world around them, benefitting not only their own physical and mental health but also the environment. Through their time at the CLCGB NI children are provided with positive role models and social opportunities, building their confidence and social skills. Our members are also provided with opportunities, through our badge work and programmes, to develop new skills and knowledge which will benefit their future education and employment. Our members benefit from having a safe and welcoming place to have fun and to learn which benefits their quality of life. In order to create this safe environment our leaders receive all appropriate training. This training also provides a benefit to our leaders, giving them transferable skills, knowledge and confidence to carry out their roles. Our leaders and the parents of young people involved in the CLCGB NI notice and report an increase in self-confidence which results from the new skills and knowledge which our members acquire. We also witness our members growing spiritually and socially as they spend time forming friendships outside of school. Parents report that being a part of a structured organisation with a uniform is beneficial to their children's' behaviour and also to their sense of belonging as they are a part of something bigger than themselves. Our members achieve badges and certificates as they learn skills as a way of recognizing this growth and learning. We witness our groups throughout Northern Ireland giving back to their communities through social action such as shoe box appeals, organising events for older people and singing in nursing homes. CLCGB NI leaders attend training courses and complete evaluations on the benefit and usefulness of the training. There is a risk that a young person may sustain an injury whilst playing sports or games in one of our groups. To address this risk we ensure that all of our leaders are first aid trained, we keep an accident book, ensure our meeting places are safe and well maintained and adhere to appropriate leader/child ratios. Due to these measures it is very rare that a member sustains an injury and we believe that the benefit outweighs the risk. Young people aged three years up to eighteen years throughout Northern Ireland. A private benefit to trustees may arise from our ongoing programme of training, including first aid training, youth work training and child protection training which they are welcome to attend along with CLCGB NI leaders as most of our Trustees serve as leaders in our groups or at events which we run. Through this training trustees gain skills and experience which are transferable to other settings. These benefits are incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to our beneficiaries.

What your organisation does

We provide weekly groups in Church halls throughout Northern Ireland which young people aged three to under eighteen years from all faiths and backgrounds can be a part of. They are encouraged to be active members of their community and to help with Church community events. We provide engaging and varied programmes including sports, games, music,

bible stories, crafts and food. Young people wear a uniform which gives them a sense of belonging and are encouraged to form friendships with children from other schools. Our programme also includes badge work which teaches children new skills and gives them opportunities to learn about how to care for others and the world around them. Our leaders are trained to ensure they provide a safe and caring environment for our members. We also provide opportunities for our groups from throughout Northern Ireland to get together for sports competitions and events.
