Public benefits

The purpose of the charity is to provide fire and safety training to volunteers and organisations operating within the voluntary sector. The benefits to the organisations, their volunteers and the wider public they serve are numerous with the primary benefit being the saving of lives in the event of fire. The primary benefit is achieved by

increasing awareness of the principal causes of fire and the associated dangers arising from its spread and development by ensuring that effective policies and procedures for the safe evacuation of public have been established. Secondary benefits flowing from the purpose include compliance with the required statutory provisions to ensure safe premises and facilities in that fire risk assessments will have been maintained with suitable and sufficient control measures put in place and which will be regularly reviewed and revised as necessary. There is a financial benefit to voluntary organisations, their volunteers and in consequence the public they serve in that as the training is free it allows them to concentrate their existing financial resources on the delivery of their core purposes. Fire safety in the home will be included in all training as standard bringing the benefit of increased awareness of the main causes of fire, the preparation of escape plans and fire safety routines. The dangers associated with electrical appliances, the types, functions and effectiveness of fire detection equipment and safety devices such as carbon monoxide detectors will be covered with safety measures and recommendations provided. These benefits will be demonstrated through; Successful completion of written questionnaires Successful practical assessments Completion of evaluation statements Increased awareness of organisational emergency procedures Increased awareness of current and revised risk assessments Increased numbers of certified safety volunteers The purposes of the charity may lead to the following harm; Physical injures due to burns, scalds, slips or falls, fear or anxiety We can show that this harm is outweighed by the benefits through; Increased personal safety of individual volunteers Increased safety of other volunteers or trustees Increased safety of members of the organisation Increased safety of others who may come into contact with the organisation through attendance at their premises or events. The charity's beneficiaries are; Volunteers working in the voluntary sector for clubs, groups or societies. Members of voluntary organisations attending clubs, groups or societies. Members of the public who will benefit from an enhanced level of safety. The only private benefit flowing from the purposes is, Individual volunteers gaining a valid current training qualification/certificate which may be transferrable to other employment and this is incidental and necessary because it is an requirement that a successful named completion certificate be awarded to satisfy fire regulations and for inclusion in the organisation fire safety logbook.
