What your organisation does
The Little Theatre Group is a community based amateur theatre group situated in St Brigid's College, Derry. The group was launched on 2nd November 2013 and we meet each Saturday at the club from 12noon to 3pm. The group was formed to fill an emerging void identified in the local urban communities caused by the migration of amateur theatre groups
into town centre venues. We provide young people five years and over with the opportunity to experience the many aspects of the world of amateur theatre. The core values of the group are founded on respect for self and others, equality and community. Through a range of fun activities our volunteer facilitators, who are all Access N.I certified, seek to encourage our members to explore and develop their own unique talents and to embrace and enhance the skills and techniques synonymous with the world of theatre. By active participation our members also develop strong life skills such as self-confidence, strong communication abilities, enhanced reading and creative writing skills, etc., and are encouraged to become valued contributors to the local community. The Little Theatre Group recognises that not everyone wants to step into the spotlight and so aims to provide all our members with the chance to experience the full range of theatre skills and techniques, including all the technical aspects such as costume design, set design and creation and stage management through its weekly workshops and target of presenting one major show annually.
