The direct benefits that flow from Fermanagh Down Syndrome Support Group purposes are the organising and provision of a range of social, educational and recreational activities for parents, carers of and individuals with Down’s Syndrome within County Fermanagh and surrounding district, providing them with the opportunity to avail of activities that

assist advance their education, protect their health, receive advice and information, social interaction all of which improve their conditions of life. The group members also work with their members, other local groups and representative agencies to raise awareness of the needs and experiences of persons with Down’s Syndrome and their parents and carers and the benefits flowing from this are receiving support from other organisations to hold activities and delivery of services. The benefits of the group activities are evidenced by measurement of numbers attending activities and feedback from participants. There is no harm flowing from the purposes of Fermanagh Down Syndrome Support Group. The beneficiaries of the group are the parents, carers and individuals with Down’s Syndrome, who live in County Fermanagh and surrounding district. The only private benefit flowing from the group purposes are that trustees of Fermanagh Down Syndrome Support Group and their families can participate in all activities and this is incidental and necessary to ensure that all eligible members of the community can potentially avail of these and benefit.

What your organisation does

Fermanagh Down Syndrome Support Group undertakes a number of actions to fulfill our purposes including the following. Regular meetings are held where our members plan activities and offer peer support to each other and at which we have guest speaker’s examples being Social Services and Citizens Advice. Numicom and Makaton workshops are held

during the year. Outings to Zoo, Pantomines, and Outdoor Recreation Parks are organised during the year and we have an annual Christmas Party. Group activities are organised once per month along four categories of: Early Years – softball activities; Primary Years – softball / cinema / swimming; Secondary Days – shopping trip / restaurant outing / horse riding; Adult Days – golfing / cinema / discos.

Charitable purposes

The purposes of the charity are to support parents, carers of, and individuals with Down’s Syndrome (hereinafter called “the beneficiaries”) in County Fermanagh (hereinafter called the "area of benefit") without distinction of age, gender, disability, sexual orientation, nationality, ethnic identity, political or religious opinion, by associating the statutory authorities, community and voluntary organisations and the inhabitants in a common effort, with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said beneficiaries, and in particular to: a) foster an atmosphere of mutual support among the beneficiaries and to facilitate a forum for mutual support; b) provide activities and or facilities in the interests of promoting health, wellbeing and social welfare for the beneficiaries; c) raise awareness, for the benefit of the public, about Down's Syndrome, and methods of treatment and management of the condition.
