Public benefits

Purpose 1 - Encouraging and providing opportunities for people to become active in a voluntary capacity in implementing and developing strategies and projects to reduce social isolation and address the needs of both groups and individuals within Portavogie and surrounding area irrespective. Local people have benefit through their participation in

programmes and activities offered including health, community cultural events, environmental improvements, these benefits have included improving the physical appearance of Portavogie through Beach Cleans and running a litter campaign to encourage investment that may help to bring new jobs to the area. Working in partnership with North Down Alternatives to reduce anti-social behaviour. In addition we organise activities for individuals living in Portavogie and surrounding area improving the quality of life, the participants learn new skills and also have the opportunity to share their skills and knowledge with each other, improving their mental health and physical well being by reducing isolation and providing a social outlet for people, we run in partnership with other local groups a monthly Senior Club for older people. Purpose 2 - Encouraging and providing opportunities to raise awareness the community and voluntary groups within Portavogie and beyond through advertising on our group facebook page. Purpose 3 - Improving co-operation and communication between the different community organisations within Portavogie creating community cohesion by sharing resources including equipment, volunteers, etc. Joint work between groups includes improving the physical, social and economic appearance of the village which benefits the wider community by highlighting dereliction and making the village more welcoming through signage which helps encourage investment, which we hope will bring jobs in the longer term benefiting those unemployed.
