Public benefits
(1) The direct benefit which flows from purpose 1 includes the fact parents are involved with teachers and other members of staff in the school helping to improve the quality of education their children receive. It involves all parties working as a team and allows parents to have a say in decision-making that impacts on their children's
education. (2) The direct benefit which flows from purpose 2 is being able to add funds to a very tight school budget which enables our pupils and teachers to have more resources in their classrooms and provides them with opportunities for different learning experiences both inside the classroom and beyond that they might not otherwise have. (1) These benefits are evidenced through regular interaction between parents and staff in the form of discussions, feedback and collective decision-making all of which reflects the school's vision statement: 'Learning and Developing Together as a Community'. (2) These benefits are evidenced by feedback from teachers, pupils, parents and in some instances inspection reports commenting on the positive impact resources provided have had on teaching and learning in the school. There is very little chance of harm arising from any of our purposes, and a risk assessment is carried out for any event we organise. In terms of safeguarding and child protection, the school has a robust policy in place. Therefore, the benefits outweigh the harm. The charity's main beneficiaries are all the pupils from P1 to P7 in St Johns PS, Carnlough by helping to improve the quality of their education. The only private benefit flowing from our purposes is the hire of specialist equipment for some events and this is incidental and necessary because it would be too expensive to purchase and, in the interests of health and safety, requires a specialist to set up and operate it.
What your organisation does
The PTFA carries out its purposes by: (1) encouraging adults to become involved, holding meetings, electing representatives, organising fundraising events, securing volunteers and consulting with parents, ancillary/teaching staff and pupils on how to make best use of the monies raised (2)purchasing classroom equipment/resources that allow the
teachers to give our pupils the best learning experiences possible; and meeting transport and any other costs which enable our pupils to learn beyond the school environs.
