The direct benefits from purpose 1 (relief of poverty) include access to relevant ASD training for parents, access to activities and trips for their children and access to advice regarding benefit uptake and other reduced fee or free access to services dependant on their circumstances. The direct benefits from purpose 2 (relief from stress) include
a shared space/support group that operates on a confidential basis where parents/carers can exchange information and shared experience. The direct benefits from purpose 3 (relief from social exclusion) includes access to new experience and places in sympathetic surroundings and with trained/aware staff. Often these experiences combine groups of non-ASD children to promote awareness and acceptance. The organisation encourages feedback from both parents and children on organised activities as well as suggestions on future activities, training etc. Parents report on firm friendships made through the support group and through discussion of fund raising ideas which lead to community involvement. No The children with a diagnosis of ASD (or have been referred with a view to diagnosis) theirsiblings and parents. To our knowledge , the organisation is the only one to support families in the process of awaiting a diagnosis. No
What your organisation does
The organisation provides a morning support group for families to seek assistance with social security agency issues, the statementing process within the education system and recreational benefits and access available to disabled children and their carers. The organisation provides 2 age group youth clubs per week which has visiting bodies e.g
Jumpin clay, small farm animals etc , craft activities and trips to such places as W5, Dundonald Ice Bowl, swimming, trampolining and horse riding. The organisation has assisted in the fees associated with aiding parents/carers with training relevant to the needs of their children. The organisation maintains strong ties with local MLAs, schools and local community groups to promote the advancement of community development.
