Public benefits
The direct benefits flowing from our purposes include: Easy access by the people of Portglenone and surrounding rural areas to local amateur paddle sports. The opportunity for those involved to develop paddling skills which will enable them to enjoy safe recreational water activity or perhaps engage in competitive water activities. Ensuring that
all members can enjoy a water activity in a safe and caring environment. As a result of engaging with groups in an out door environment participants overall health and well-being will be enhanced and community connections strengthened. The benefits will be demonstrated through the following means: Initially we will provide opportunities for people to participate in planned paddling skills development programmes with full trained instructors which will lead to weekly paddling sessions with the intention that opportunities to participate will increase. We would expect that in year 1 of existence 64 people will become skilled in paddle sports and 20% will progress to gaining further qualifications towards becoming a coach. As part of the sessions participants will learn about water safety, how to paddle safely and will develop skills and techniques under the instruction of the qualified instructors. We will monitor participant numbers and engagement in activities offered. Water activity does present risks but by using qualified instructors and by following CANI (Canoe Association NI) guidelines, by implementing a Health and Safety policy and Risk Assessments these risks would be minimised. Our beneficiaries are people from Portglenone and surrounding rural areas. The only private benefit gained would be payment of qualified instructors which are necessary to carry out the activity. They are not members of the Committee or the Club. Individuals may also benefit from canoe training acquired which will in turn benefit the group and hopefully ensure sustainability.
