Public benefits
Purpose One: The Society is established to advance education in Cullybackey and its environs by studying and encouraging the study of history, historical and cultural heritage of the area of benefit. The benefits flowing from this purpose include:- monthly meetings encouraging general public to come together to learn, hear from speakers and
learning from each other. These are identified through the monthly talks, social media and interaction with other groups which all encourages others to get involved and learn. There is no risk of harm from this purpose. The beneficiaries are those living in, interested in and associated with Cullybackey and the surrounding area. There is no private benefit flowing from any of the purposes.
What your organisation does
a. There are records of local historical buildings, talks and memorabilia which has been collected. b. Research is encouraged through talks, one-to-one tuition and social media. c. Open days are held to display memorabilia and encourage others to join, along with monthly talks. d. There are monthly talks between September and May to inform and
stimulate interest and participation. e. We have acquired an archive of material since the formation of the Society including books, street directories, photographs, old maps, plans of old buildings, DVD's and memorabilia. f. The Society hold reminiscence evenings to encourage the sharing of stories and memorabilia. Every meeting is recorded and all items held by the Society are archived. g. Past and current events are recorded on a Timeline which is on the website to benefit future generations. h. There are sub groups set up when a specific area of historical interest arises e.g. a sub group is currently working with the Cullybackey branch of the British Legion to trace all those who left Cullybackey to sign up for the First World War. i.Grants and gifts are accepted where appropriate to the work of the Society. j. Money is spent where appropriate to the work of the Society.
