Public benefits

1. The direct public benefits that flow from the first of our two purposes are: the provision of opportunities to everyone to get involved in activities of a social, recreational, educational nature through working with other people with a variety of skills, that will allow and facilitate capacity building within their respective communities which

in turn will contribute towards the improvement of the quality of life for all people living within the greater Downpatrick area. 2. The direct public benefits that flow from the second of our two purposes are: the provision of opportunities for individuals & groups from all backgrounds to socially interact in a safe and controlled environment, where they will learn, share and develop new skills with each other, helping to equip them to work together through public and private partnerships towards achieving shared goals that will benefit people living within the greater Downpatrick area. The benefits are demonstrated through feedback from participants and beneficiaries; the level of uptake of services and signposting to other agencies; the number of surveys and investigations promoted, carried out and used to gain funding or lobby decision makers; the number of people attending meetings, classes or activities; the number of activities carried out; the number of fundraising events; and the number of successful grant applications. There is no harm from our purposes. Our beneficiaries are members of the community who live within the boundaries of Downpatrick District Electoral (DEA) Area. A private benefit to trustees may arise through our programme of activities for people in the area. Trustees may gain skills, experience or gain advice relevant to their own circumstances which are transferable to other settings. These benefits are incidental and necessary to ensure the benefits is provided to our Beneficiaries.

What your organisation does

The first issue we addressed was regarding unacceptable levels of ASB associated with traditional Halloween bonfires and the solution was to host a town centre event that provided a Bonfire Beacon and other activities free of charge, in a controlled safe environment. Through working in partnership with various statutory and voluntary bodies

including PSNI, NIHE, NM&D Council, St Patrick’s Centre, Down Museum, DCA, DAC, PHA, DfC the Collective have established themselves as a important entity within the community sector and Collective members work hard to improve the social wellbeing of their members and communities. We achieve this through our committee members representation on various local bodies including Downpatrick Neighbourhood Renewal Partnership, Downpatrick Interagency Group, Downpatrick local housing forum, NM&D PCSP Neighbourhood Watch Network, Downpatrick District Electoral Area forum etc In addition to the above the Collective are involved in various activities including the planning and delivery of several key public events in Downpatrick including our annual Culture Night & mini Halloween Festivals. Our members also support other local prominent causes like “Save the Down” campaign and we fully support the delivery of the Downpatrick Master plan. We engage with other community groups (locally and further a field) facilitating the sharing of good practice
