The direct benefits are that the population of Newry and the surrounding area learn about the purpose of buildings and places in the area and of the persons who created and influenced the city. This is evidenced by regular attendance encompassing several hundred persons per annum. There is no harm arising from the purposes. The beneficiaries are

the audiences who attend. There is no private benefit flowing from the purposes.

The Society provides regular Talks on matters of local historic interest, an Annual Dinner and Outings of a general historic interest.

Charitable purposes

The society is established to advance the education of the public by the promotion, of the local history of the region surrounding Newry City and its environs of Counties Armagh, Louth & Down (hereinafter called the "area of benefit") to everyone without distinction of age, gender, disability, sexual orientation, nationality, ethnic identity, political affiliation or religious belief.
