Public benefits

Shopmobility Mid Ulster meets the public benefit requirement detailed in the Charities Act under the relief of those in need. The main benefit of our service is that it enhances the independence of our service users, increasing their ability to integrate into the community and take part in activities that others take for granted. Shopmobility Mid

Ulster aims to provide equipment and advisory services that help those who are socially excluded through restricted mobility to re-integrate back into the community. By providing equipment designed to aid mobility, users are able to access shops, leisure and commercial facilities they otherwise would not be able to avail of. The provision of mobility equipment and advisory/signposting that Shopmobility Mid Ulster offers, provide comfort to those who are sick or convalescent. In many cases the provision of equipment has been life changing. Shopmobility Mid Ulster assists people with mobility difficulties to help make Cookstown and surrounding areas more accessible. What your organisation does

Shopmobility Mid Ulster aims to assist where possible people with mobility difficulties (physical disability) to access Cookstown and surrounding areas. We wish to enable people with mobility difficulties to get around more easily the social, cultural and commercial facilities Cookstown has to offer. In essence the scheme provides a large range of

mobility equipment including mobility scooters, manual wheelchairs, powered wheelchairs and walking aids to allow anyone with either a temporary or permanent disability to get around. The scheme also provides a volunteer befriending guide to assist them around the shops. This includes meet and greet where volunteers bring equipment to the persons home or car parked nearby and saves the users having to get into our office. Finally the scheme provides advice and signposting to anyone with mobility related difficulties to other statutory, private or community organisations that may be able to assist them further. The launch of a recent Sighted Guide project provides a volunteer guide to assist those who are partially sighted or blind around the shops, leisure and commercial facilities in the area. This includes; reading labels, pushing a trolley and guiding users from shop to shop. Working closely with other disability and older peoples groups in the area, Shopmobility is involved in providing an online Accessible guide to shops, leisure and commercial facilities in the Mid Ulster area.
