Public benefits

The direct benefits of purpose 1 are the advancement of education for children under the age of statutory school age within the Holy Family Parish and other areas of North Belfast. Within our nursery the children are provided with skills which prepare them for primary school and through social integration with other children will further develop

their social skills. Each child’s individuality is valued in our nursery and we aim to encourage and extend each child’s development while providing a rich variety of play activities and other informal experiences. There is a wider benefit to the whole community as skills learned by the children will be transferred to other environments in the community which promote education and learning. There are primary schools in the community which the children go on to. Transition reports are prepared detailing the children’s development and progress as they move to primary one. The development of each child is key while recognising that each has a unique individuality and the aim is to encourage and extend each child’s development while providing a rich variety of play activities and other informal learning experiences. Nursery sessions are carefully structured to include a wide range of activities which will provide your child with a broad, balanced and relevant play-based curriculum. The programme of activities (based on a wide variety of themes) is displayed in the nursery hall on a weekly basis for parents/carers. Throughout the school year the children will learn to participate in a wide range of activities which are specially designed for their age group. Through these activities children will develop emotionally, physically, socially and intellectually. Parents are also asked to complete a questionnaire which asks for suggestions and any improvements required to the service. The benefits of the organisation are evidenced through regular detailed observations and assessments of the children conducted by nursery staff, regular feedback from parents/carers of the beneficiaries on a daily basis and at formal one to one meetings, three times a year, with the nursery leader and also informally throughout the school year. Parents are given verbal and written reports on how their child’s is progressing and the benefits are evidenced through feedback from parents/carers. In addition, there is regular inspection and evaluation of our services by Early Years, Social Services and ETI. There is no harm arising from any of the purposes. The organisation’s beneficiaries are pre-school children and children from 2 years 10 months up until pre-school age. There is no private benefit flowing from any of the purposes except the employment of staff which is required to ensure the benefit is provided – it would not be practical to have volunteer staff.

What your organisation does

The Resurrection Nursery and Playgroup provides curriculum based learning through play for children in their immediate pre-school year and for children from 3 years to 4 years, aiming to give each child the opportunity to interact with peers and adults alike, supporting learning and providing stimulating, warm and caring environment in which to

develop. In the nursery our aim is to: enhance the children’s whole development with an encouraging environment; pass on positive attitudes of independence, co-operation and self-discipline; nurture a mutual respect for others; develop their skills in communication, problem solving, creativity and knowledge; enhance their self-esteem and confidence; offer children the opportunities to explore and experiment in a safe, open and inclusive environment. The nursery sessions for preschool children are run Monday to Friday from 0900 to 1200 and the playgroup sessions are run in the afternoons from 1245 to 1500 and parents have the option to send children for 5, 3 or 2 afternoon sessions.
