Public benefits

The direct benefits which flow from John Paul II Youth Club are an increase in social skills, improvement of emotional well-being, improved educational outcomes and enhancement of spiritual development. This purpose will also provide improvement to overall community life. These benefits can be evidenced in our annual report produced by the

Worker-in-Charge. Evidence is derived from quantitative data through the evaluation of programmes. Questionnaires are completed by the young people and are used as a tool to identify that the young people are benefiting from the club programmes. Recording and observations of staff members and other qualitative data from parents and community representatives is used as a learning tool. There is no identifiable harm arising to any person through the pursuit of the above organisational purpose. The beneficiaries of this purpose are children and young people as defined by Government policy living in Belfast. Regarding private benefits a private benefit may be gained by a trustee, staff member or volunteer who has a young person who makes use of the facilities and activities of the club. The young person of the aforementioned applies to be part of the youth club and is given access in the same way as other beneficiaries. This benefit is incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to our beneficiaries. Volunteers may gain an increased sense of well-being through the involvement in the club, however this benefit is incidental and necessary to ensure benefit is provided to beneficiaries. Staff may gain opportunities to be involved in educational and recreational activities. This benefit is also incidental and necessary for the work of the organisation to take place.

What your organisation does

John Paul II Youth Club is a voluntary youth club which has provided youth provision from 1972 in the greater Ardoyne area of Belfast. It was established to provide and promote facilities and activities of a social, spiritual, educational and recreational nature with the objective of improving the conditions of the life of young people without

distinction of sex, political, religious or other opinion, while having a positive impact on the community and improving relations of young people with their peers and others in the community. John Paul II Youth Club involve the young people in the creation, participation and delivery of programmes. Our programmes and activities are responsive to and reflective of the young people in the area and are designed to correspond with the curriculum for youth provision. This community development approach encourages a greater sense of ownership leading to participation from the young people, ensuring that the project achieves success benefiting all.
