The public benefits that flow from the charitable purpose of community development are:- (a) the increased efficiency and effectiveness of community and voluntary organisations, resulting in enhanced outcomes and service delivery and, consequently, an improved quality of life for those who benefit from the work of these organisations; (b) the

These benefits can be evidenced from records kept by various agencies of the number of jobs and training opportunities created and from evaluations of the work and impact of Carnlough Community Development Group. No harm arises from this charitable purpose The beneficiaries are community and voluntary organisations and, ultimately, the general public. Some private benefit is obtained by the owners of small businesses who rent units on favourable terms, but this is ancillary and necessary to achieving this charitable purpose.

Charitable purposes

The Charity’s object is the advancement of community development in Carnlough and its environs (the “area of benefit”), an area of economic and social deprivation, without distinction of gender, sexual orientation, age, race, ethnicity, disability, or political, religious or other opinion and in particular: (a) the promotion of the community and voluntary sector for the benefit of the public by providing facilities and amenities to community and voluntary groups; (b) the creation of training and employment opportunities by the provision of retail, office and workspace for use on favourable terms.
