Public benefits

The direct benefits flowing from the objects of the Association are that those members of our community who suffer from problems relating to loneliness/isolation, mental or physical ill health, substance abuse will be welcomed to a safe venue where they can meet with others who share the same problems. They will have the opportunity to use their

own skills and share the skills of others on basic community based projects involving them in upgrading furniture, basic horticulture, participation in discussions and talks led by health experts from a variety of statutory agencies. They will be educated, supported and encouraged to have a better/healthier role in the community. Their feelings of isolation will be diminished because they will have new friends, a listening ear, a place where they can talk in confidence and where they can be valued for the skills they have and not ostracised by the community for their various health issues. The community will benefit because these individuals will be working to improve the environment, making the village more attractive and developing their own sense of citizenship. The health services will benefit because these individuals will find a better healthier way and will hopefully learn to cope and improve their emotional well-being and their attitudes to substance abuse. The benefits can be identified and measured by the number of individuals coming forward to join the Men's Shed. They will me measured by the numbers attending on the recreational and educational courses. They will be measured by the number of referrals sent to the organisation from the statutory services. They will also be measured and demonstrated by the ongoing monitoring and feedback from individual members. There is no harm arising from the purposes of Toome Men's Shed The beneficiaries are individuals from the community who currently suffer from a range of emotional, physical or mental health issues, those who feel lonely or isolated and those who wish to make a fresh start. There is no private benefit flowing from the activities of Toome Men's Shed.
