Public benefits
We provide specialist training for staff members which enables them to work with our children, meeting their needs, enhance their education and life skills and also pass knowledge onto other staff. We have provided funding to cover pecs workshops for staff, team teach training, that enables staff to manage challenging behaviours. Play based
learning training for staff members and enhanced training that enables the staff member to provide in house training for other staff members, parents and careers. We help with the upkeep of the sunshine variety club bus, which we also secured funding for. This bus enables the staff to take pupils out on trips to the cinema, supermarkets, cafes etc to enhance their life and social skills. We provide training for parents to enable them to cope or manage their child better e.g. Autism training and understanding it better, makaton workshops to enable better communication with their child, training to handle different behaviours. These help parents/carers with everyday issues and hopefully how to manage them better. We provide extra funding for the school summer scheme every year to enable the leaders to provide extras for the children attending the summer scheme to enjoy. This helps provide cinema trips, outing to the zoo, lunch outings, sensory buses coming to the school, petting zoos coming to visit. We undertook the refurbishment of the sensory room at the school, this benefits all the children in the school with behavioural issues as it is a haven for them to relax and calm down if needed. We hold barbecues, coffee mornings etc that parents, siblings, family and friends can attend and get to know other families and also get information on the different things the PFA do . We provide activities to enhance the lives of the children, their parents/careers, siblings and families to make a difference to them and provide support any way we can. The staff training provided compliments and enhances what is already in place from the Education Authority. Social Events enable parents and guardians to interact and share personal experiences in a relaxed and informal way. Funding provided for the summer scheme allows the Team Leader to buy in entertainment and experiences for the children. Funding for other social events, such as barbecues, coffee mornings and theme nights give parents/guardians, staff and pupils a chance to mix socially. Funds are raised by events such as, Craft Sales, table quizzes, car boot sales, raffles, sponsored walks, pamper days and fashion shows. Harm: No. Beneficiaries: School pupils, parents/guardians, staff and the local community. No private benefit.
What your organisation does
The Parents and Friends Association carries out the following activities: We provide therapies for parents of our children to help them relax and enjoy some time with other parents for example, relaxation therapy and mindfulness therapy. We hold coffee mornings and information days for parents/careers, hold fashion shows, pamper days for
parents/carers. We have craft fairs which raise funds for the PFA, school leavers group and Duke of Edinburgh group in school. We provide equipment in school that is not funded by the Education Authority through a wish list that is submitted to us in September every year from each class and help cover costs of maintaining equipment that is also not covered e.g. Upkeep of photocopier.
