Public benefits

1) Advancement of Community Development & Citizenship - The benefits to the community and beneficiaries include gaining a greater sense of belonging and involvement in the community, improved confidence, well-being and health. The social and educational life for all will become enhanced and inclusive. 2) Advancement of Education - Increased

understanding, learning and skill development at individual and collective levels. 3) Advancement of Health or the Saving of Lives - Reduced levels of stress and anxiety, better nutrition and well being. 4) The relief of those in need by reason of youth, age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage - Relief from anxiety, stress and the impact of social exclusion caused by living in an isolated rural community. The benefits are demonstrated through feedback from the local community and the sense of well being, confidence, greater awareness of health issues and reduced social isolation from beneficiaries participation in community events, activities, resources, education, recreation, belonging and involvement. There is no harm from our purposes. The beneficiaries of these purposes are the inhabitants of Burnside and surrounding area of Co. Antrim. There is no private benefit from our purposes.

What your organisation does

1) Advancement of Citizenship & Community Development - In cooperation with other founders provided children's play area, outside gym equipment and recently developed a 2mile river walk. We also remove graffiti and litter and generally tidy the village. Provide annual calendar of events, advertise these locally in the community which include

summer family outing e.g. 2015 bus to Crawfordsburn country park with a picnic followed by trip to Bangor, Christmas shopping trips, activity days for the kids, subsidised tickets to Santa, pantomime, horseriding, fishing trips, roller disco. Christmas tree lights switch on which includes food and a visit from Santa. Summer village fete held annually includes range of activities young and old. Hold annual treasure hunt for fundraising. Hold annual coffee morning for chosen charities e.g. Cancer Research and Panda's Disease. 2) Advancement of Education - computer classes for older, art club, health & hygiene training, first aid training, child protection training and child care classes. 3) Advancement of Health or the Saving of Lives - First aid training sessions, lunch club gives approx 60 older people nutritional lunch, improves mental health through reducing isolation, and provides practical training and development of skills for volunteers preparing serving the lunch. 4) Relief of those in need by reason of youth, age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage - lunch club for older people reduces social isolation and improves mental health of beneficiaries, local oil club helps approximately 85 households facing fuel poverty as smaller quantities can be ordered more frequently at better prices.

Charitable purposes

The Association is established to: relieve poverty, sickness and assist the aged and to promote the benefit of the inhabitants of Burnside and surrounding areas of Co. Antrim, hereinafter described as the "area of benefit" without distinction of age, sex, race, political, religious or other opinion, by associating with the statutory authorities, voluntary organisations and inhabitants in a common effort to advance education, and to provide facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation or other leisure-time occupation, with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants.
