Purpose 1: Keady Gateway Club promotes the social inclusion of people with a learning disability in their local area, ensure they have equality of opportunity in accessing social and leisure opportunities in the right environment with the right support. The Gateway club operates in various venues within the local community and aims to increase

public awareness and understanding of the abilities of people with a learning disability, their problems and needs and those of their family, dependants and carers in order to assist their integration to society. Purpose 2: Keady Gateway Club provides a leisure opportunity for members and enable and empowers them to decide which activities they would like to do in the club. It provides an opportunity for members to develop friendships and relationships in a safe environment. It also provides a public benefit to parents and carers in the form of respite on a regular basis. The benefits from purpose 1 are demonstrated by positive feedback from people in the community and support for the Keady Gateway Club within the local area. The benefits from purpose 2 are demonstrated by the enjoyment of members attending club and the consistent attendance and participation of members. There is no harm or potential harm that could arise as a result of the club operating. The beneficiaries are Members, Parents/Carers, Volunteers, Committee. The support to the members is provided by volunteers. Volunteers receive private benefit in the form of skills, training and experience which can be transferable outside of Keady Gateway Club. This is incidental and necessary as our members need to be supported by suitably trained individuals.

What your organisation does

The Keady Gateway Club provides social and leisure opportunities for adults with a learning disability from the local and surrounding area. The club offers a range of games, educational, creative, life skills, environmental and sports activities. The aim of the Club, is to provide leisure and social opportunities and to encourage the personal and

social development of Club members through a range of activities. Through the clubs activities, the members who attend learn new skills, develop their social skills and interests, meet new people and develop new friendships. The club therefore also provides respite and support for parents and carers of the members that attend. The voluntary management of the Club and voluntary leadership and supervision during the activity club assists in drawing upon the opportunities, skills and talents that each volunteer brings to the Club. Through the clubs activities and volunteer support and development, the club raises awareness of learning disability in the local area.

Charitable purposes

The objects of the club are: (a) The relief of people with a learning disability in particular by the provision of help and support for them and for their families, dependants and carers, and to prevent learning disabilities for the public benefit. (b) To provide or assist in the provision of facilities for the recreation or other leisure time occupation for people who have need thereof by reason of learning disability with the object of improving their conditions of life. "learning disability" means any developmental disability of the mind and any associated condition howsoever caused and whether mild, moderate or severe.
