Public benefits
The direct benefits flowing from these purposes include improved preparation for the transition into Primary 1 and beyond, increased levels of communication with peers and families, an improved understanding of the world around us while promoting familiarity and interest in other cultures, increased training and development opportunities for all
beneficiaries, improved early intervention for those children who are identified as being in need of additional support, improved partnerships with relevant community and educational agencies and increased safeguarding and child protection standards. Causeway Preschool makes it known that religion of any kind is not part of the curriculum so no parent or child of any faith background or belief system feels ostracised or challenged. Providing a qualified Polish translator means our Polish parents can communicate confidently and confidentially with our preschool team regarding their child's progress. The curriculum provided by the Education Board ensures all significant areas of development and learning for pre-schoolers are catered for so our attending children are assured of a setting that nurtures their emotional wellbeing as well as providing them with endless learning opportunities. Causeway Preschool takes the responsibility of child protection and safeguarding very seriously. Both parents and attending children benefit from very tight policies and procedures to ensure their safety in all situations. The preschool team, its volunteers and members of the management committee are provided with a range of training opportunities. The preschool team are allowed to attend necessary training days during session time as cover and remuneration are provided. Parents notified of all visiting educational agencies and briefed on the benefit enjoyed by the children during the visit. In particular, parents are made aware of the facilities and services offered by our local Sure Start and how they can support families with babies and pre-schoolers. Providing high quality learning resources and facilities means attending children, the preschool team and volunteers have the opportunity to learn and teach without compromise and that the preschool keeps its reputation as a professional and well equip early learning environment Continued petitioning and advocacy to our governing and funding bodies to provide correct and adequate remuneration to qualified team members highlights the irregularities of funding and pay within this sector. It also raises awareness of the issue within the immediate community. All families have said they felt especially welcome and accommodated for. Our attending Polish families feel there is no language barrier with the translator. With the help of the translator, some observations have also been conducted for two Polish children to assess their learning progress. Parents feel involved in their child’s progress when they are able to see the observations that the preschool team have made on their child. Our annual inspection on child safety in our setting have always showed a consistently high standard of policy and practice. Having high quality learning resources and facilities has meant the preschool team can administer the curriculum to the standard they are expected Ongoing training means that our preschool team members are constantly upskilled. Several parents have availed of the services offered by Sure Start or have joined the local library. Causeway preschool highlighted significant financial need to the Board and received a grant There is no harm arising from any of the purposes. The beneficiaries of Causeway Preschool are children of preschool age in the Portrush area, their immediate and extended families, Polish speaking preschool age children in the Portrush area and their immediate and extended families, any attending child/ren with special educational needs in the Portrush area and their immediate and extended families, preschool staff, volunteers and committee members. There are operational costs involved, including employee salaries however they are not genreally considered a private benefit for the purposes.
What your organisation does
Causeway Community Pre-school advertises itself publicly as a cross community pres-chool and advises parents at opening and induction nights that no religious content will be taught. Advertising posters are also translated into Polish so the information is more accessible to the Polish speaking community. The enrolment catchment area is focused on
Portrush, Coleraine and Portstewart and rural surrounding areas. A large proportion of money made through fundraising goes directly to the learning resources and contributes towards maintaining the facility to a high standard. Causeway Preschool has developed a close relationship with a qualified Polish translator who is on hand to translate documents and attend interviews and open nights. Additional translators for other languages will be sourced when required. The preschool team do not serve meat or meat products for break to make it accessible to all children regardless of faith or belief system. At the time of enrolment, the preschool team also liaise with each parent with respect to how they can best accommodate and facilitate their child within the setting. The preschool is heavily regulated and monitored by two governing and funding bodies who ensure the curriculum is being delivered and the Minimum Standards (mostly regarding child protection, safeguarding policies and procedures and facility management) are being met. These governing bodies are Early Years (NEELB) and the Education Board. The preschool also employs an independent Early Years Specialist to support the team manage the curriculum and the facility. The preschool leader displays all lesson plans and curriculum within the setting so parents, visitors and inspectors can see how and when the 6 Areas of Learning and Development are being implemented. The Education Board, the NEELB and Early Years send regular information to the preschool regarding relevant training courses and opportunities.
