Public benefits

Firstly, the provision of public literature events improves awareness of, understanding of and thereof develops appreciation of the literary arts. Second, the public literature events, promote a greater sense of community well-being, by connecting people to the arts and enabling the enjoyment of said. Third, the communities in Enniskillen and its

hinterland suffer geographical isolation and socio-economic deprivation due to logistical obstacles such as limited transport provision and a comparatively sparse populace in disparate localities, which often fails to attract the levels of attention that areas with greater population levels may necessarily do so. Thus the provision of and development of literature arts activities necessarily mitigate the feelings of social isolation. Fermanagh Writers has exponentially increased its membership since our inception in 2009, building year on year our Membership. Our weekly sessions have steadily increased in mean average size. Our workshops have also increased the level of participation, from our Membership and from the general public. Opportunities for public performance have increased, due to our work in raising public awareness of our organisation and our work and in reaching out and attracting interest from external agencies. Attendance at our public performance events have also increased steadily year on year. Since Fermanagh Writers have started, there has been socio-economic benefits such as tourism brought about by a generalised increased interest in the arts; we believe that we have contributed to that upsurge. There is no harm arising from the purposes. The charity's beneficiaries are the charity's membership and the general public. Individual members have indirectly benefited by having their confidence, self-belief and self-esteem enhanced through the development of their literary skills and abilities and through public performance, with the positive feedback to the presentation of their work. Members have taken those positive experiences and have won literary competitions, performed at prestigious events and have succeeded in the publication of their work in magazines, anthologies and their own collections. This in turn contributes to their greater individual wellbeing and increases their potential for socio-economic improvement. Any private benefit that our members receive is incidental and necessary for the charity.

What your organisation does

Fermanagh Writers has regularly weekly meetings to share, comment upon and constructively critique each other's work. We have public performances at local festivals, public events, competitions and other public fora. We also have public workshops with professional tuition to enable the writers to develop their skills, and abilities and enhance

their work. We have reached out and we have established links with groups in Omagh - South Tyrone and Cavan Town - County Cavan, Kells - County Cavan, Lisburn and Belfast. We have a public website, www.fermanaghwriters.com, with information about our organisation, a blogpost and event notifications, this is augmented by our facebook page and twitter account. We have recently launched a digital Community Cross-Arts Magazine, Corncrake - www.corncrake.com.
