Public benefits
The direct benefits that flows from this purpose are an increased accessibility to and improved understanding and appreciation of local, national and international culture, heritage and the arts and in particular the work of internationally renowned sculptor Frederick Edward McWillliam (F.E. McWilliam 1909-1992) These benefits can be demonstrated
through recorded attendance at F. E. McWilliam Gallery and Studio exhibitions, lectures and workshops; the number of visits to the F.E. McWilliam Gallery and Studio by schools and arts and/or museum related groups; the provision of commissions and grants to artists; the provision of grants to groups in the community and schools to attend exhibitions, talks and workshops in the F.E. McWilliam Gallery and Studio; successful applications for grants to develop education programmes currently focused on Key Stages 1 and 2; successful applications for grants to contribute to the purchase of artworks created by F.E. McWilliam to add to the F.E. McWilliam collection and archive of which Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council is the custodian; the number and variety of visits by members of the charity to other local, national and international museums and galleries. It is the view of the committee of trustees that no harm flows from the charity's purpose or its out-workings. The charity's beneficiaries are the general public. Private benefit flowing from this purpose may be that gained by the cafe, craft shop and tourist information office located within the F.E. McWilliam Gallery and Studio due to increased visitors to the museum. However this is incidental and necessary because these facilities also attract visitors to the gallery and thus enhance the visitors’ experience and opportunity to engage with the F.E. McWilliam collection and archive. In addition, private benefit flowing from this purpose may be gained by living artists whose work is exhibited in the F.E. McWilliam Gallery and Studio and who lead tours and workshops as organised by the charity. This is incidental and necessary because the charitable purpose could not be achieved without benefiting the artists by raising their profiles and making their work available to the public.
