Public benefits
The public benefit flowing from the Pomeroy Afterschool purposes is that quality childcare is provided to local children in an afterschool setting. Children benefit from having a well supervised afterschool club where they have a quiet environment for homework activities. They also benefit from a range of other activities such as arts and crafts,
music, drama and physical recreation. This service benefits both the children and their working parents but also the community at large. Children learn by making friends, learning independence and self-confidence. Parent benefit by knowing that their children are being well cared for. These benefits are demonstrated by the numbers attending the after school club and by consultation sessions with the parents. The benefits are also monitored by the after school leaders who talk to the children on a regular basis and who report back to the management committee. There is no direct harm flowing from these purposes. The beneficiaries are the children and their parents who live in the Pomeroy area. There is no private benefit except to staff who are paid by the management committee.
What your organisation does
Pomeroy After schools club offers a safe child friendly environment for children 5 days a week. The children come from the local schools and have a supervised space where they can complete homework and participate in a whole range of extracurricular activities such as arts and crafts, music and drama and physical recreation. The children are then
collected by their parents from 5pm onwards. This is a locally organised provision in a very rural area managed by qualified childcare workers and a local group of volunteers who form the management committee.
