Public benefits
The direct benefits flowing from the purpose of Strabane Down Syndrome Support Group include developing conditions for people with Down Syndrome to meet their potential, supporting the parents and entire family of a person with Down Syndrome, building and developing friendships with other families with Down Syndrome, and promoting equality. These
benefits can be demonstrated by arranging placements for adults with Down Syndrome, by meeting and socialising with other people with Down Syndrome creating friendships with other peers, parents and siblings who face similar family issues, thus building an understanding and mutual respect for people with Down Syndrome and their families. There is no harm flowing from this purpose. The charity’s beneficiaries are people with Down Syndrome and their families in Strabane and surrounding areas of Castlederg, Victoria Bridge, Newtown Stewart, Sion Mills, Ardstraw, Lifford, Ballymagory, Burndennet, Donemana, Plumbridge and Clady. A private benefit may arise to the committee members who may from time to time avail of training programmes in matters such as governance, but this is necessary for professional standards to be maintained to carry out the work of Strabane Down Syndrome Support Group to ensure the benefit is provided to our beneficiaries. This is both incidental and necessary.
