Public benefits

The direct benefits which flow from the purpose include increased community engagement thus reducing social isolation that will lead to improved health and well being. By providing training and volunteering opportunities we can enhance the economic and social outcomes for residents living in the Caw Nelson Drive area. These benefits can be

evidenced through Government statistics as well as direct feedback from local residents and service users by using community surveys, focus groups and evaluation reports. We do not believe the purpose of our charity will lead to any harm. The charity's beneficiaries are local people living in the Caw Nelson Drive area. The only private benefit flowing from this purpose is the payment of salaries to core staff and this is necessary as staff are required to progress their work and purposes of the charity to ensure the benefit is provided to our beneficiaries.

What your organisation does

The aims of Caw/Nelson Drive Action Group are to create and develop opportunities for local people to close the gap between the quality of life in one of the most deprived neighbourhoods within the Derry City and Strabane District Council area and the quality of life for the rest of society. We do this by offering a wide range of educational and

recreational courses, social engagement, advice & family support, health awareness programmes, community safety initiatives, environmental initiatives, older people’s luncheon club and activities. An example of some of our activities are parenting programmes, womens group, IT Classes, befriending scheme, creative craft and arts courses, summer schemes and fun days which are open to all. We also provide training courses, volunteering opportunities and work placements which help to build skills, capacity and increase employability. We strive to build genuine partnerships based on strong effective relationships, trust and mutual respect which in turn lay the foundations for building bridges and connecting the Caw/Nelson Drive area to the wider community. Agencies which we work alongside are Housing Executive, PSNI, PCSP, Education Authority, Public Health Agency, Western Health and Social Care Trust, Department for Communities, Department for Infrastructure, Citizens Advice Bureau, Action Cancer and Derry City and Strabane District Council. The group has taken part in various cross community and cross border good relations initiatives in collaboration with Galliagh Women’s Group, Serenity House, Inishowen Partnership, Lettershandoney and District Development Group and Hillcrest Trust.
