Public benefits
The charitable purposes of the The Francis McPeake School of Arts Ltd (the advancement of education, the arts and heritage) are of direct benefit to anyone who wishes, and has the opportunity, to take advantage of access to the FMPSOA classes and workshops, and who avails of their use. These participants will benefit from enhanced appreciation,
knowledge and understanding in their chosen field, measured by increased capabilities, competences and skills, leading to improved grades in mainstream arts education (where relevant), participation in quality productions which expand students CV’s and/or portfolios, all of which serves to increase opportunities for further education and employment. There is no private benefit flowing from these purposes. In the past 10 years the FMPSOA has provided workshops and performances for, and involving, children and young people from disadvantaged areas in Belfast and across Northern Ireland (with free classes and performances provided at scheduled events and sites to promote access for those in extreme poverty), the elderly, the disabled (both children and adults), and those with medical conditions. In future the FMPSOA will continue to provide its educational and artistic services, and therefore benefits, to these groups, however the FMPSOA recognise the potential risks to children and vulnerable adults due to the provision of such services but the FMPSOA is satisfied that the necessary policies and procedures are in place to safeguard participants, and that the benefits of our services and activities are greater than the potential harm. There is no private benefit flowing from these purposes. The artistic and educational output of the FMPSOA also has benefits for the wider community as the FMPSOA actively seeks to increase its audience through performance as often as possible, over as wide a geographical area as possible, this is furthered by the development of multimedia content which allows for the development of a global audience. The benefit to the public from this is to provide an increased opportunity for appreciation of the arts and to increase standards in such appreciation by providing high quality content. The success of which is measurable through audience attendance and appreciation as reported voluntarily on short form comment cards and by viewing figures, comments and reviews for online content and media output. The success of past performances in increasing pupil attendance at various sites and centres indicates that the public further benefits by an increased understanding of the career potential of the arts as well as providing a first point of contact for career pathway information, as the success of former students provide a tangible demonstration to the public of what can be achieved in the arts sector through determination and access to quality facilities. There is no private benefit flowing from these purposes.
