Public benefits

The direct benefits flowing from our organisation's purpose will include the following: The direct benefits flowing from our organisation's purpose will include the following: 1. Protection and preservation of human life. 2. Provision of solace and support to family members of missing persons and persons endangered due to accidents or natural

hazards. 3. Improved safety of missing persons or persons endangered. 4. Greater awareness and knowledge among the general public in all matters relating to inland water safety and awareness, waterborne rescue, first aid and the safe and appropriate use of outdoor environments. 5. Protection and improvement of the local environment; improved public safety and conservation of habitats of local wildlife; and greater awareness and knowledge among the general public of good environmental practices. These benefits will be identified by monitoring, reviewing and evaluating the activities of the charity throughout the year. We will monitor how many missing persons or persons endangered have been aided by the charity. We will also monitor and evaluate how many public and community events that have been stewarded by the charity. We will gauge public opinion on how they value our services on an annual basis. We will monitor and evaluate any training or awareness courses delivered to members of the public. We will gauge the opinion of local police service and other local authorities who we assist to evaluate our performances. The purposes of the charity could lead to some potential harm when aiding individuals who are in distress or are endangered due to natural hazards. As our services will be delivered on waters and on land, there is always a risk of accidents happening. The charity partakes in weekly training drills to ensure that active volunteers are competently trained and experienced in both water and land. Harm to the public and community should be minimal. Should a person who is missing or endangered become injured as a result of our services, we believe the this risk is strongly outweighed by the benefit of attempting to save their life or prevent serious injury. The charity's beneficiaries are the general public and communities who reside along the Mourne River, Strabane town and neighbouring areas. The only private benefit identified is that volunteers and members will gain training and qualifications to help them perform their duties on behalf of the charity. This is incidental and necessary as the charity will require competently trained volunteers and members to fulfil its purposes.
