1. The advancement of citizenship or community development: The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include giving residents a meeting place to get together with others. There are opportunities to learn, enhance the quality of life and reduce social isolation in our rural community while building community spirit and relations. These
benefits will be demonstrated through increased numbers of residents attending the events organised by Lislea Community Association. 2. The advancement of education: The direct benefits which flow from this purpose include keeping people informed. With people increasing their knowledge, they will be able to make informed choices with regards to their lives and widen their skills and knowledge in various areas. These benefits will be demonstrated through post evaluation forms and/or a record of certificates received by members. Neither of the purposes will lead to harm. For both purposes, the charity’s beneficiaries are people living in Lislea and its surrounding districts in Co Armagh. In relation to both purposes, the only private benefit flowing from this purpose is the Association’s programme of ongoing training that a trustee may attend in relation to good governance, finance etc. Through this training trustees gain skills and expertise which are transferable to other settings. These benefits are incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to our beneficiaries.
What your organisation does
Lislea Community Association was established for the benefit of the people of the Lislea area and its environs. The LCA Committee maintain the local Community Centre for the use of the community and the Centre is open to everyone, cross community, intergenerational, male and female. The Committee organises and facilitates a programme of
activities to meet the specified needs of the community e.g. flower arranging classes, cooking courses, quizzes and drama productions. They also organise regular annual events e.g. Mass each November in memory of deceased members of the community; a Christmas dinner each December for older people and a Christmas Lights Switch on/Carol singing/Santa event for the children. The Committee is currently carrying out preparatory work to support an application for funding to carry out major refurbishment to the Centre. This involves carrying out, interalia, a detailed survey to determine the views, wishes and requirements of the community in relation to the existing premises/programme of activities as well as their future needs.
