Public benefits

The provision of play based education for children under statutory school age in the Killyleagh and surrounding areas. Public benefit statement: The trustees believe that both elements of the public benefit requirement are satisfied. The direct benefits flowing from this purpose are that children at this stage have a safe, healthy and stimulating

environment in which they can learn through play and that each child will be helped to develop their own unique set of qualities and talents to their full potential. These benefits can be evidenced by feedback from the Parents, by the detailed observations and assessments carried out by staff and by the external inspections from the Education Department and Social Services. The purpose of the Playgroup is beneficial and there is no harm. The beneficiaries of this purpose are the children who attend the Playgroup. The preservation of the health of the beneficiaries; Public benefit statement: The trustees believe that both elements of the public benefit requirement are satisfied. The direct benefits are that beneficiaries receive a healthy snack during their session which encourages healthy eating at a young age. The parents/carers are informed of any health-related information relevant to children at this stage and the Playgroup liaises with Social Services and other health officials in regards to making the health and development of the children a priority. These benefits can be evidenced by feedback from parents, records kept of the children and also by external inspections by Social Services and other Health Officials. The purpose is beneficial and there is no harm. The beneficiaries of this purpose are the children who attend the Playgroup. Supporting the values and principle of early years; Public benefit statement: The trustees believe that both elements of the public benefit requirement are satisfied. The direct benefits flowing adherence to these principles are that children at this stage have a safe, healthy and stimulating environment in which they can learn through play and that each child will be helped to develop their own unique set of qualities and talents to their full potential. These benefits can be evidenced by feedback from the Parents, by the detailed observations and assessments carried out by staff and by the external inspections from the Education Department and Social Services. The purpose of the Playgroup is beneficial and there is no harm. The beneficiaries of this purpose are the children who attend the Playgroup. In relation to all of the above, a private benefit to trustees and staff may arise from training in good governance, finance, child protection, first aid, etc. Through this training, skills and experience are acquired which are transferable to other settings. These benefits are incidental and necessary because to ensure standards of care are achieved the training must be fulfilled and certificates received on completion must be put on public show.

What your organisation does

Killyleagh Early Years Playgroup started in the early 1990's and is a setting for up to twenty four children. It is involved in the Pre-school Education Expansion Programme primarily for children in their main preschool year. The Playgroup, each year are awarded a number of funded places from the local library education board. Criteria is then

used if there are more than twenty four applicants. The children are encouraged in the six areas of learning through play. Examples are Language, Early Maths, Art, The world around us, Personal social and Emotional and Physical Development and musical. Each morning session in the Playgroup is two hours and forty five minutes and includes a healthy snack buffet break.

Charitable purposes

The Group is established to promote play based learning environments for all children under statutory school age (hereinafter referred to as the beneficiaries) of the area served Killyleagh and its surrounding environs in County Down (hereinafter called the 'area of benefit' without distinction of age, gender, marital status, disability, sexual orientation, nationality, ethnic identity, political or religious opinion, by associating the statutory authorities, community and voluntary organisations and the inhabitants in a common effort to advance education, and in particular: a) to advance the education of the beneficiaries by the provision of safe and satisfying group play, with the right of parents/carers to take responsibility for and to become involved in the activities of the group; and to promote the preservation of health of the beneficiaries; and b) to support the values and principles of Early Years.
