Public benefits
The public benefits that flow from the purposes listed are: 1) The advancement of citizenship and community development of the Minority Ethnic communities. 2) The advancement of education for the Minority Ethnic communities and the advancement of increased cultural understanding and respect of diversity. 3) The advancement of health and
wellbeing. 4) The relief of those in need by reason of youth, age ill-health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage. 5) The advancement of human rights and the promotion of racial harmony, respect and equality. These benefits are evidenced through feedback from our service users and regular internal and external reviews and evaluations of our services. Qualitative and quantitative statistics are also recorded and monitored. Feedback is also recorded from external agencies that refer into our services. Whilst the wider public and other service providers may benefit from our services, the main beneficiaries are members of the Minority Ethnic communities living in the wider Armagh area. Some private benefit is obtained by service users who gain skills, knowledge and qualifications which are transferable to other settings. These benefits are incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to our beneficiaries. These benefits are greatly outweighed by the gains in public benefit. No harm arises from these purposes. Minority Ethnic Support Armagh (MESA) works with Minority Ethnic communities to improve their quality of life and will continue: • To ensure the accommodation needs of members of the Minority Ethnic communities are continually highlighted. • To work with the Northern Ireland Housing Executive and other statutory agencies to challenge the negative impact of poor accommodation on Minority Ethnic communities' health, education, employability, racism and integration. • To use Community Development approaches to improve the health and social wellbeing of Minority Ethnic communities including building capacity to engage with health-related providers. • To enhance the educational opportunities of young members of the Minority Ethnic communities by encouraging increased school attendance. • To facilitate educational, training or employability opportunities, internally and in partnership with other agencies. • To advocate in partnership with other ethnic minority groups, the development of culturally sensitive educational provision. • To ensure that all work carried out by MESA Committee is inclusive, fair and equitable. • To challenge racism in all its forms with, and on the behalf of the Minority Ethnic communities. • To advance the integration of Minority Ethnic communities by contributing to Government Policy development and by delivering anti-racism and anti-discrimination training. • To advance the levels of co-operation between MESA Committee, Minority Ethnic communities and the statutory and voluntary sectors. • To review and maintain existing partnerships and to identify new partners to further the aims and objectives of MESA committee. • To signpost Minority Ethnic communities to the range of advice and support services available in the area. • To support external agencies in meeting the needs of the Minority Ethnic communities. • To continue to provide the family drop in service to ensure the Minority Ethnic communities have the information and support to access all relevant services. • To encourage and facilitate the Minority Ethnic communities through capacity building to develop skills and knowledge to enable individual and collective action. • To maintain internal and external monitoring and evaluation mechanisms in order to measure the impact of the project.

(i) Minority Ethnic communities and their children (ii) the public generally in promoting an understanding of the history, traditions, culture and way of life of Minority Ethnic communities so that they might better understand their needs. 3) To promote good health and wellbeing and relief of sickness among Minority Ethnic communities. 4) To support those in the Minority Ethnic communities in need by reason of youth, age, ill health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage and to inform, support and encourage them to use welfare, health and community services and to advocate on their behalf when necessary. 5) To promote equality of opportunity and diversity for the public benefit through activities that foster good relations between Minority Ethnic communities and the communities they live or visit and to establish a sense of belonging in society rather than living in the shadows of society.
