Public benefits
D’sign Public Benefit Statement Our beneficiaries are people of all levels of deafness living in Northern Ireland. The direct benefit which flows from the promotion of sign language and the arts and culture is that the deaf community will have a creative/artistic outlet which will not only provide education and skills to the beneficiaries but
also should help to to improve the emotional and mental health of our beneficiaries. Through our work we also aim to create a greater awareness of deaf culture and the problems that the deaf community face among the public in Northern Ireland. These benefits will be evidenced through the number of participants which take part in our classes and workshops and the number of productions or co-productions that we participate in. By giving deaf people the right training, they will be able to develop the skills needed to participate in the production, management and delivery of performances thus helping them to increase their confidence and self-esteem and being able to participate with others.
What your organisation does
D'Sign provides opportunities for the Deaf Community to engage with arts and culture. It offers arts education to develop skills in performance, visual and other arts. D'Sign provides opportunities for Deaf artists and the Deaf Community to showcase work through performances, exhibitions, film and other formats. It uses the arts to build
self-confidence in the Deaf Community and, through British and Irish Sign Language interpretation, brings work by Deaf people to the public in the North of Ireland.
