Public benefits

The trustees believe that our purposes satisfy both elements of the public benefit requirement. The benefits which flow from the organisation's purposes are maintained and improved services in the Down Hospitals. This will be demonstrated by increased bed numbers and by an increased number of services in the local hospitals. The trustees hope to

demonstrate this benefit by achieving the reinstatement of 24 hour Accident & Emergency services in the Downe Hospital. The Downe Hospital was built due to pressure from the ordinary people of Down District led by the Down Community Health Committee. The beneficiaries of these achievements, past and future, are all of the people of the Down District. There is no harm or private benefit.

What your organisation does

The Down Community Health Committee has campaigned relentlessly for the retention and enhancement of local services. It holds public meetings and rallies, meets with elected politicians and representatives of the South Eastern Health & Social Care Trust in order to put forward the case for maintaining and improving local services in the Down

Hospitals. It publicises its work by way of statements and adverts in the local press, and production of banners, posters and flyers in order to increase its active membership which in turn will help it achieve its aims.
