Public benefits
Objective 1 The public benefit arising from purpose 1 is the formation, presence and activity of a support network designed to reduce the risk of suicide and self-harm through working with the affected community in the Upper Bann area. The public benefit is evidenced through the increasing numbers of people directly at risk along with their
close family and friends availing of the services provided. The services provided by PIPS Upper Bann are supervised and co-ordinated by a trained and certified counsellor thus minimising any risk associated with the delivery of our services. The public benefits outweigh and risk. The beneficiaries of the services we provide are (1) Those at risk of suicide and self-harm and (2) Those affected, including families and friends An incidental benefit arises from the need to procure professional counselling services to allow PIPS Upper Bann to deliver its services. Objective 2 The public benefit arising from purpose 2 is the formation, presence and activity of a support network designed to reduce the emotional pain, distress and isolation of families and friends impacted by suicide and/or self-harm The public benefit is evidenced through the increasing numbers of people directly at risk along with their close family and friends availing of the services provided. The services provided by PIPS Upper Bann are supervised and co-ordinated by a trained and certified counsellor thus minimising any risk associated with the delivery of our services. The public benefits outweigh and risk. The beneficiaries of the services we provide are (1) Those at risk of suicide and self-harm and (2) Those affected, including families and friends An incidental benefit arises from the need to procure professional counselling services to allow PIPS Upper Bann to deliver its services. Objective 3 The public benefit arising from purpose 3 is (1) The promotion of positive mental health and wellbeing through addressing the sense and feeling of isolation (2) To support, educate and encourage people to look after their mental health through access to a positive and safe network and environment The public benefit is evidenced through (1) The increasing numbers of people directly at risk along with their close family and friends availing of the services provided. (2) Attendance at PIPS Upper Bann events and training programmes All PIPS Upper Bann event are risk assessed with appropriate public liability insurance in place as required. The risk of any harm is small and outweighed by the overall benefit to the community. The beneficiaries of the services we provide are (1) Those at risk of suicide and self-harm and (2) Those affected, including families and friends An incidental benefit arises from the need to procure infrastructure resources (e.g. premises hire etc). Objective 4 The public benefit arising from purpose 4 is (1) An increased public knowledge, awareness and understanding of the risk of suicide and self-harm (2) A reduction in the perceived stigma associated with suicide and self-harm (3) Provision of a professional referral service for those affected by suicide or self-harm The public benefit is evidenced through (1) Attendance at training and educational events (2) Feedback provided by attendees (3) An recognised increased societal awareness of the threat posed by suicide and self-harm The risk of any harm is small and outweighed by the overall benefit to the community. The main beneficiary is the wider Upper Bann community through an increased awareness and understanding of the threat posed by suicide and self-harm An incidental benefit arises from the need to procure infrastructure resources (e.g. premises hire etc).

THE AIMS OF PIPS UPPER BANN • To work for the assistance of all people who are suicidal, despairing or in distress and thus reduce the incidence of suicide and self-harm. • To provide support, information, and appropriate service, to enable such people to receive immediate help and friendship. • To signpost such people to professional medical
services available. • Providing help, support and comfort to families and friends who have been bereaved through suicide. • Promote the fostering of positive mental health and help improve the emotional well-being of all people in our community. • To work to reduce the stigma attached to mental health illness • To provide training to educate and raise awareness of the causes and effects of suicide and self-harm. • To provide Intervention Skills Training.

2. AREA The area with which the Association is concerned (the “area of benefit”) shall be Upper Bann and its environs. 3. OBJECTS The objects of the Association shall be to: I. Work for the assistance of persons who are suicidal, despairing or in distress and thus reduce the incidence of suicide and self-harm by providing or assist in providing support, information and appropriate services and referral for treatment from professionals to enable such persons to receive immediate help, compassion and friendship; II. Alleviate distress and offer assistance to people who have suffered loss through suicide or anguish through self-harm by loved ones, in particular by the development of support systems within the community; III. Promote the fostering of positive mental health and to improve the emotional wellbeing of people residing in the area of benefit; IV. Advance the education of the public into, and raise awareness of, the causes and effects of suicide and self-harm and into matters relating to the nature of grieving, bereavement and the treatment and rehabilitation of individuals that self-harm.
