Public benefits
All of our purposes are for the benefit of people who are deaf, deafblind, hard of hearing and deafened living primarily in Newry and Armagh but also in the border counties. 1.The direct benefit which flows from the advancement of education is that through our services and activities we will increase the confidence and self-esteem of our
beneficiaries. We aim to provide training workshops to advance skills with potential for employment and also to provide training for our beneficiaries to become Deafblind guides, Deaf support workers and Deaf Sign Language translators/interpreters. This will be evidenced by the high number of people that attend our projects. 2. The direct benefit which flows from the relief of need is that our beneficiaries will be able to communicate with people who understand them and can communicate properly back to them. By providing information, advice and guidance in sign language, tactile communication and spoken-to-text on topics such as benefits, housing, employment, debt, family/domestic, we will be relieving the frustration and stress which is brought about by others not understanding sign language. This will be evidenced by helping the beneficiaries to understand correspondence, completing forms, signposting and referrals to other services and providing interpretation services to people who need them. 3. The direct benefit which flows from promoting health and wellbeing is that the emotional and mental health of our beneficiaries will be improved. We would like to provide recreational and social activities at our centre but also develop services for our older beneficiaries in their own homes. Social interaction with people who can understand and communicate with you should help promote relieving stress and improve the lives of our beneficiaries. This will be evidenced by the variety of projects that we develop in consultation with our beneficiaries. There is no harm from our activities and there is no private benefit.
