Public benefits
The direct benefit of purpose 1 is the enhanced knowledge and understanding in young people in the area of benefit, through receiving an education. These benefits are evidenced through feedback from local educational authorities principals, teachers and pupils. We can see no harm arising from this purpose. We award pre-school, primary and secondary
school students with funds to pay for education which would not otherwise have been available to increase their prospects. These scholarships are selected by a person of authority in the area, for example, a school teacher, who can make the decision about which students would benefit most academically from the scholarships and whose financial state warrants the scholarship. The beneficiaries of this purpose are members of the public who live in the area of benefit who will benefit from improved education. There will be no private benefit flowing from this purpose. The direct benefit flowing from purpose 2 is the provision of suitable facilities for learning, for health treatment and for recreation, easier access to education and further opportunities for these children. Benefits are demonstrated by feed-back from community representatives. The beneficiaries are the children and teachers attending the schools, the members of public in the area of benefit who will benefit from improved education, medical care or community support. We can see no harm arising from this purpose. The direct benefit from purpose 3 is the provision of first aid in areas where people cannot attend clinic appointments because of travel costs and/or treatment costs. Benefits are demonstrated by feed-back from community representatives. The beneficiaries are the local people who avail of this first aid care and improved health outcomes in hospitals, hospice and community care. There is no identified private benefit or harm arising from this purpose. The benefits that flow from purpose 4 include improved life conditions and opportunities for those people and the community with whom the volunteers are working and wider improvements in living and social conditions. Our volunteers will visit the area of benefit and decide on an appropriate project. This will be evidenced through volunteer reports and reports from host community leaders. There is no identified private benefit or harm arising from this purpose. The direct benefits that flow from purpose 5 is the education of the public in science through informal (e.g. interactive exhibits) and formal ( e.g. programmes to support science national curriculum) learning methods through outreach programmes in Northern Ireland, the rest of the UK and ROI and anywhere else the trustees deem appropriate. The benefits are evidenced by feedback from those attending outreach events and the numbers of visitors to the website. There is no harm flowing from this purpose. Anyone involved in delivering the outreach projects will be required to be a STEM ambassador (with a valid DBS certificate). The beneficiaries are the public at large in NI, the rest of the UK and ROI, and visitors to the TanzaniAID website. A private benefit to trustees may arise from their association with the charity and from training in good governance which may deliver skills that are transferable to other settings or which may assist towards obtaining other appointments. This benefit is incidental and necessary to ensure delivery of the benefits provided to the charity’s beneficiaries. All private benefit in carrying out of our purposes is incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to the beneficiaries. There is no harm flowing from our purposes
What your organisation does
In 2014 we installed solar panels and a battery system in a secondary boarding school in Tanzania. We want to continue to carry out projects like our original endeavour with an underlying theme of using science to make a difference in the world. We aim to improve schools, medical and recreational facilities and resources in the UK and places of
need to improve the quality of lives of the people in those communities. We fund academic scholarships, provide medical supplies and support other unique projects. In carrying out this work we aim to promote the benefits of science and education and raise awareness about the areas we visit for the general public in Northern Ireland, the rest of the UK and the Republic of Ireland.
