Public benefits
The direct benefits which flow from purposes 1-5 are: – enhanced knowledge and understanding in young people through receiving an education. – enhanced understanding of personal values and citizenship – enhanced self-discipline, communication, relationship building and coping skills – improved community life – a more positive attitude towards
education and employment – a better chance at obtaining employment These benefits will be evidenced through feedback from the young people the charity has helped, local businesses and job centres. These purposes will not lead to any harm. The charity’s beneficiaries are people aged 11-24 living in Northern Ireland. The charity may pay employed staff who as necessary for the fulfilment of its charitable purposes. However this benefit is incidental, they receive the benefit of a salary but this is necessary in order to provide the charity’s services to the public.
What your organisation does
Offer an informal route into education/employment/training & target those that have disengaged with formal education/training. Working with local job centres, schools etc to identify those most suited to the programme this will be youth led and will last for 13 weeks. Our programme is based around changes to attitude and individual development. We
will encourage young people to contribute their ideas to the projects within our programme. To achieve this we see the need for them to have a good support team behind them. This will involve those who care for them i.e. family/supportive adults, to discuss challenges they are facing, and appropriate specialist support i.e. health & well-being, drink/drug abuse etc. They will understand personal values and participation in public efforts of citizenship that contribute to the community both local and national. They will be fully supported in understanding life planning, leisure and work options, & steps to act on those choices. They will gain skills for having self-discipline, communicating, cooperating, building relationships, coping, adapting, & being responsible & making good judgements. We plan to place the young people in a variety of challenging situations with problems to solve and choices to make under conditions of risk to promote teamwork. We will create a supportive environment with positive role models/mentors to ensure they will feel confident in their own ability. E.G. job placement experiences will provide the opportunity to experience the challenge of new or complex tasks or problems. They will run the programme like a business where records of meetings would be kept on file along with costings etc for the various events that would require organising. Roles would be identified & filled by them, with each getting the opportunity to experience the roles on offer. We feel that our programme will be strong as we will involve them as leaders, ultimately benefiting both the programme and the young people.
