Public benefits
Education The direct benefits which flow from this education include, people will be more knowledgeable about Cave Hill and its flora, fauna, history and geology and will give greater respect to it as a natural environment. These benefits will be demonstrated through feedback obtained by filling in either an evaluation sheet or a general
questionnaire. The purposes of our charity may lead to the following harm people on our activities may stray from marked paths or sustain injury. We can show that this harm is outweighed by the benefits through careful choice of routes and adequate supervision so that participants adhere to given routes and avoid accidental injuries. The charity’s beneficiaries are members of the Northern Ireland public and visitors from any part of the world who choose to participate in any of our activities. The only private benefit flowing from this purpose is participants may have an opportunity to buy literature produced by a director and walk leaders may have their CVs enhanced and this is incidental and necessary because the literature will be directly relevant to the walk experience and will enhance their knowledge. Environmental Protection The direct benefits which flow from the purpose. Habitats for a range of animals, invertebrates and plants will be enriched. Through lobbying, public representatives and officials will be better informed and sensitive environments on Cave Hill will be better protected from specific threats. These benefits are demonstrated through having and keeping a record of trees planted and invasive species removed as well as a photographic record of rubbish lifted. We will keep copies of notes from meetings with public representatives and others as well as all formal letters and emails that we send and receive. The purposes of our charity may lead to the following harm. There may be injuries from the use of tools and accidental falls and people straying from marked paths. We can show that this harm is outweighed by the benefits through using only simple, non-power tools and ensuring that all participants are shown how to use them. Adequate supervision will ensure that participants adhere to given routes and avoid accidental injuries. The charity’s beneficiaries are people primarily in Northern Ireland and others from anywhere in the rest of the world (the area of benefit) who avail of any of our educational activities or information or who hear any talks about Cave Hill delivered by us. The only private benefit flowing from this purpose people who are trained to lead groups and demonstrate tools will have their CVs enhanced and this is incidental and necessary because we need people to carry out these functions and there is no way to avoid this CV amelioration.
