Public benefits

Purpose 1: Improved relationships between home and school The benefit which flows from this purpose includes funding for additional resources for the school and links built with the local community. This is demonstated through having an active PTA that works in partnership with the school and engages parental support. This purpose does not lead to

harm. The benefit is for children at Bellaghy Primary School. Charity trustees (PTA committee members) are usually parents at the school which their children attend and hence gain benefit in the same way as all the other beneficiaries. This benefit is incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to all the beneficiaries. Purpose 2: Advancing the education of pupils in the school The benefit which flows from this purpose includes increased educational progress and attainment of pupils in the school and links built within the local community. This is demonstrated through pupils having access to resources, events, activities and links with the local community which are not available through direct school funding. This purpose does not lead to harm. The benefit is for children at Bellaghy Primary School. Charity trustees (PTA committee members) are parents at the school which their children attend and hence gain benefit in the same way as all other beneficiaries. This benefit is incidental and necessary to ensure the benefit is provided to all beneficiaries.

What your organisation does

We are an active PTA which organises social fundraising events throughout the school year. In the past we have successfully organised a Fashion Show, Bridal Show and an 'Auction' of promises night along with other smaller family events such Movie Nights and 'Social' type games for all the family. Our main fundraising activity each year is a

Breakfast with Santa event held in December. This event helps to develop links into the wider community and is very well supported locally. The PTA also help to provide assistance at school led events such as the Christmas concert when we supply refreshments and also the provision of a BBQ at the annual Sports' night event. The events organised by the PTA are principally arranged to provide funds however there are great social advantages as parents interact with each other and the school staff in a more informal and relaxed manner. Our PTA Committee is comprised of elected parents and the staff are represented by the school Principal. The Committee meets in order to share expertise, ideas and to plan fundraising events. They also decide how best to use funds raised to meet the needs of pupils at the school. In this we are ably advised by our staff representative who is well placed to advise on which resources would prove most valuable within the school. Recently, the PTA have purchased 12 iPads and covers alongside a trolley for safe transport of the same. We further funded a training course for staff members on how best to incorporate the iPads in a classroom setting. Other funds have been used introduce the Accelerated Reading Programme and for sports equipment. We seek to promote knowledge of PTA events and activities via a number of means including a dedicated PTA noticeboard, school newsletters, a Facebook page and by updating our PTA section on the school website. These forums ensure parents are kept up to dare with PTA activities and we are very grateful to a very supportive parent body.
